DOES YOUR BACK GO OUT MORE THAN YOU DO?

Back pain strikes almost everyone at one time or another, with pain in the lower back being the most frequent! Problems can arise from too much flexion or extension of the spine, which might cause the vertebrae or bones to press on the roots of the spinal nerve. Muscle spasm is another reason for your back to seize up. Common causes include lifting heavy objects incorrectly, or twisting suddenly during any activity. The aging process and arthritis may cause bone spurs to form and this would also contribute to nerve irritation and decreased mobility. Depending on your specific condition, treatments might include rest, physical therapy, body bracing, medication and/or surgery.

To speed recovery, it is important you learn about the causes and preventative treatments for your back pain. Ask your orthopaedist for an evaluation, ask questions, and become an active participant in your own recovery!
