LOSING YOUR GRIP? TINGLING HANDS, LOCKED ELBOWS AND FROZEN SHOULDERS

Anyone can experience injuries to their hands, elbows and shoulders. Young people and athletes are often at risk for wrist, elbow and shoulder problems due io impact sports. Older people may experience stiffness and immobility of these joints as age-related problems set in.

The shoulder is one of the most movable joints in the body. It is important that this mobility of the shoulder be restored and any restrictions to motion should be evaluated as soon as possible by a physician. The elbow acts as a hinge for the arm and also allows the hand to rotate. It is frequently the site of inflammation due to strain and everyone knows how painful a blow to the elbow bone can be! One of the most common complaint with hands is numbness and tingling and a feeling of "pins and needles." One reason may be "carpal tunnel syndrome," when a major nerve to the hand is compressed as it passes through a tunnel of bone and ligament at the wrist.

As each area includes muscles, tendons, bones and nerves, damage to one area may cause pain and numbness that is felt elsewhere. Given the extent and complexity of movement we expect from our hands and arms, any painful condition should be evaluated by a specialist physician as soon as possible.
