THE ORTHOPAEDIC AND SPORTS MEDICINE CENTER, LLC and its affiliates, The Maryland Knee and Hip Center and The Maryland Back and Neck Center, are known throughout the state for:
Excellence in Patient Outcomes Few physicians, even today, scientifically track and report outcomes of their surgery. We have tracked outcomes on our knee and hip patients as far back as 1991. These outcomes have been reported at national orthopaedic meetings with 100% improvement. We have now expanded this to other areas, eg: spine, shoulder, hand and foot. Sub-Specialization Our orthopaedic surgeons focus on one or two areas. This allows them to become real experts. Before agreeing to surgery, ask them, "How many of these do you do?" You have the right to know! Satisfied Patients Your best resource here is one of our patients. We regularly track patient satisfaction, both in our office and in the hospital - 98 percent give us a good to excellent rating. Immediately Available Care Injured? In pain? Call our Hotline: 1-800-493-4878 immediately. One of our doctors is always available for emergencies. On Saturdays, we have a dedicated walk-in injury care clinic - no appointment necessary. Cost Effective Care We have the lowest cost for joint replacements in the state. One insurance company's survey showed that we were the most cost effective orthopaedic surgeons in the state. Doing it right the first time is cost effective!
BACKGROUND THE ORTHOPAEDIC AND SPORTS MEDICINE CENTER, LLC was established in 1976. Amongst its founders was the late Dr. Marshall K. Steele, Jr. (the father of Marshall K. Steele, III), who developed his expertise in treating sports injuries as team physician and Chief of Orthopaedic Surgery for the U.S. Naval Academy. The practice has grown steadily, and now offers full spectrum musculoskeletal care:

Immediate care is provided to patients without an appointment at the Saturday morning Injury Care clinic in Annapolis (thought we do recommend calling first if possible). If people call ahead, we can better determine the seriousness of the injury and provide appropriate advice. People can come to the Injury Care Clinic and see an orthopaedic specialist when most other medical offices are closed. We can do many things an emergency room can, treating sprains, broken bones, knee problems and injuries to the spine, foot, ankle, hip, shoulder, elbow and hand. Instead of possibly being referred from one doctor to another, an orthopaedic patient only has to see one, which is quicker and less expensive. ORTHOTICS AND PROSTHETICS Another benefit to patients is the convenient, full-service Orthotic & Prosthetic department at our Annapolis practice. Our certified Orthotist/Prosthetist is always on-call during regular patient hours. He works in close conjunction with all our physicians, and is often able to fit patients with a device, and provide most supplies, at the time of the appointment. We also bill your insurance for you as necessary. DEDICATED WORKERS COMPENSATION PROGRAM Our physicians schedule Workers compensation evaluations and IME's and support a dedicated "return to work" policy. Our Workers Compensation Case Manager works individually with patients, their insurance companies, and their employers to ensure optimal results for all parties. PHYSICAL THERAPY We offer physical therapy services to those patients who are in need of specialized PT care. Our dedicated PT programs are located on site in the Annapolis and Bowie offices and include:
COMMUNITY SERVICE Go to an Annapolis High School football game and you're likely to see one fan carrying a medical bag. Visit the Severna Park High School locker room after lacrosse practice and you may find someone other than the coach taping a player's sore ankle. What started in 1985 as simply providing medical supervision at some football games has grown into a comprehensive community program that includes many of Anne Arundel County's high school sports teams. The doctors, trainers and coaches all benefit from the close working relationship, with the greatest benefit passed down to the players and athletes. INSURANCE BILLING The practice has contracted with a wide range of insurance organizations, both Preferred Provider Organizations (PPO's), and Health Maintenance Organizations (HMO's). Click here to see a list of insurance carriers. Call our main office at 410-268-8862 if you have any questions regarding our participation. We also accept Medicare and Medical Assistance and all commercial indemnity programs as well as self-pay patients. As a service to our patients we do bill their insurance carriers, and our billing representatives are authorized to set up payment plans in appropriate cases. |
